Haw Par Music

A music and social initiative that aims to foster cross-cultural exchange through music, heritage, and the arts. In perfect harmony: music, heritage, community.

Haw Par Music serves the function of a cultural hub, to connect people of any age from all walks of life through music and heritage and to promote wellness and creativity in the society.

It's a center for cross-cultural exchange through music, heritage, and arts, with a social initiative.

Haw Par Mansion is one of the few surviving specimens of the Chinese Eclectic style architecture in Hong Kong, and an invaluable heritage site.

This place was created by demolishing Tiger Balm Garden in1990s, however, a selected collection of artifacts and figurines have been restored and installed in dedicated locations within the revitalized Mansion and its private gardens.

Located in Tai Hang - Tiger Balm Garden is long gone, buried beneath the Legend, a four-tower luxury residential development. But the adjacent private garden and mansion still remain, with the premises being listed as a Grade I heritage site. They’ve been revitalized and given a new identity.

Inside the mansion lives the old and forgotten trying to be alive the 'Cantonese Opera' - which is a traditional Chinese art form, involving music, singing, martial arts, acrobatics, and acting.

Through these pictures, we can get a glimpse of their costumes, artwork, and attires.

Becoming the first-ever music institute in Asia that integrates heritage conservation, music education, and community engagement initiatives, the premises Chinese Eclectic architectural style renders its unique cultural significance. It’s one that merges the East with the West and the old with the new and blends a variety of cultures and arts.

Cantonese Opera was finally named as one of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity by the United Nations in 2009.

The interiors of the mansion are furnished with bay windows and fireplaces, beautiful stained-glass windows from Italy, timbers cravings, and moldings gilded with gold and reliefs showing Indian and Burmese influence.

Visiting this place was like musical healing for me, it’s never been more important to take care of our mental health amidst a global pandemic. As we admit that COVID-19 has caused unexpected changes in our personal development plans, we believe changes and challenges are inevitable, so we simply have to adapt.

I strongly believe Har Paw Music is sure to create a legacy of its own while keeping the original Haw Par spirit alive.
